Method and assumptions
Estimate an eBay order using the total amount paid by the buyer. Category fee caps, international fees and store discounts are not inferred, so enter the effective rate shown for your listing.
Net profit = item and shipping revenue - final value fee - per-order fee - promoted listing fee - product cost - shipping - return allowance.
Worked scenario
Test an order with item revenue, buyer-paid shipping, product cost, actual delivery cost, final value fee, per-order charge and promoted listing rate. Then change only the promoted rate. This isolates the additional sales value required for promotion to create contribution rather than merely revenue.
How to interpret the result
The fee base can include amounts beyond item price, and rates vary by site, category, store level and seller status. Treat the promoted listing rate as conditional on an attributed sale, then compare the resulting contribution with an organic order. For period planning, use the actual share of promoted orders rather than charging every order at the ad rate.

Questions to check before deciding
Are eBay fees calculated on shipping?
Final value fees are generally based on the total amount of the sale. This calculator includes buyer-paid shipping in that amount, but you should confirm the rule for your marketplace.
How should I enter a promoted listing fee?
Enter the ad rate attributed to this sale. Use zero when the sale was not attributed to a promoted listing.
